The Board will oversee the organization’s community-centered effort to create a master plan for nearly 42 acres of city-owned land on Sarasota’s bayfront

SARASOTA, Fla. (Oct. 19, 2016) – A nine-person, all-volunteer board of directors will provide governance and oversight of the Sarasota Bayfront Planning Organization, an entity that will create a comprehensive master plan for the development of nearly 42 acres of land on Sarasota’s bayfront.

The Sarasota Bayfront Planning Organization (SBPO) builds on the foundation work completed over the past three years by the Sarasota Bayfront 20:20 organization in establishing the vision and guiding principles desired by the Sarasota community for the development of the bayfront site. The SBPO is charged with guiding a professional, comprehensive master planning process for this development that reflects the desires of the Sarasota community for a family friendly green space that also provides an exceptional home to Sarasota’s arts and cultural organizations. The continued support of the City of Sarasota for this vital developmental effort is valued.

The SBPO will hire a qualified project manager and a professional planning firm to aid in creating the master plan. The new board members recognize the uniqueness of this opportunity to create a bayfront that reflects Sarasota’s values and vision. Each of the board members resides in the Sarasota community. All funds needed to support this planning effort are privately raised from the Sarasota community. No governmental funds are being used.

“Recruiting a best-in-class board is the next step in realizing our community’s vision for the 42 acres of land on the Sarasota bayfront,” said Michael Klauber – one of the new board members. “Each board member has a range of experience, a proven track record in dealing with complex issues, and a unique passion for the future of Sarasota.

Their collective perspective will accelerate the success of the planning organization and ensure that the process to create a master plan

advances Sarasota and the vibrancy of our community as it continues to focus on the Sarasota vision.”
