Updates from Sarasota Bayfront 20:20

Sarasota Bayfront 20:20 stakeholders,

Sarasota Bayfront 20:20 had a very positive presentation to the City of Sarasota Commissioners in a workshop in February along with the Van Wezel, the Van Wezel Foundationl and the Sarasota Orchestra teams. During the meeting, Sarasota Bayfront 20:20 promised the City of Sarasota Commission to create a structure to successfully develop the master plan for the bayfront, which is being called the Planning Organization. See the full blog post on the Commission workshop here.

The City Commission workshop was a great moment, but I have to be honest, when I got home that night I could not sleep. My brain was racing. How are we going to get this done? The details are overwhelming to say the least! I’m not afraid to tell you that I can run you through every inch of the restaurant and catering business but creating a nonprofit organization and a Sarasota Bayfront Planning Organization is just not something I have ever done. I was challenged and knew help would be needed to sort through the details of creating an entity of this nature.

Soon after the commission meeting the Patterson Foundation stepped forward to provide an experienced facilitator and business consultant to get the job done. I am almost finished with that work. My plan is to share that information with the stakeholders at our June 29 meeting.

In recent months, we have also presented to a number of organizations, including Golden Gate Pointe Association, Sarasota Community Foundation’s board of directors, Bird Key Homeowners Association, The Ivy League Club, Hudson Bayou Neighborhood Association’s annual meeting and Plymouth Harbor.

Sarasota Bayfront 20:20 would be happy to speak with your community organization. Please contact Shantel at SNorman@visitsarasota.org for additional details and scheduling.

Thanks to these meetings and various discussions around town, Sarasota Bayfront 20:20 now has 52 business and community organizations that have embraced the vision and guiding principles. Our latest adopters are the board of trustees of The Perlman Music Program – Suncoast and Plymouth Harbor.

And finally, don’t forget about our next stakeholders meeting on June 29 at 10 a.m. The location is TBD but stay tuned for additional details on our website and Facebook page.

Look forward to seeing everyone at the June meeting,

Michael Klauber, Sarasota Bayfront 20:20 Volunteer Chair
